A prayer request from the Daughters of Mary
Bishop Clarence Kelly, who was the superior of the Society of St. Pius V, in which Fathers Dolan and Cekada were members in the 1980s, died December 2, 2023. Clarence Kelly was born in 1941 and served for four years as an enlisted man in the United States Air Force. He then studied philosophy at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He graduated in 1969, and in 1971 he entered the seminary of the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) of Archbishop Lefebvre in Switzerland. He was ordained in 1973, and returned to the USA, where he started to offer Mass on Long Island, New York. The first Mass center was in his brother’s garage, which he transformed into a chapel, naming it St. Pius X Chapel. He was later the SSPX Northeast District Superior, until he and eight other priests left the Society in 1983. Father Kelly later founded the The Daughters of Mary Mother of Our Savior and the Congregation of St. Pius V. He was consecrated Bishop in 1993. In 2007 Bishop Kelly consecrated Bishop Joseph Santay, who in his turn in 2018 consecrated Bishop James Carroll.
℣. Eternal rest, grant unto him, O Lord,
℟. And let perpetual light shine upon him.
℣. May he rest in peace.
℟. Amen.
